SOMERVILLE, MA - On Wednesday, September 10 at 8:00pm, The New England Steering Committee of Obama for America presents an
all-star musical fundraiser of Boston-area singer-songwriters and roots musicians at Johnny D's in Davis Square. Participants
include Merrie Amsterburg, Greg Greenway, Alastair Moock, Anne Heaton, Michael Troy, Geoff Bartley, Chris O'Brien, Kevin Connolly,
Amy Fairchild, Lloyd Thayer, Scott Alarik, Thea Hopkins, members of Session Americana, and more. The show will be hosted by
Alastair Moock and performed in the style of his Pastures of Plenty roots music series, with
spontaneous collaborations between performers.
Merrie Amsterburg is the winner of two Boston music awards, one Boston Phoenix award and a Jam magazine award. Greg Greenway
has been described as "one of the strongest and finest voices in folk music." According to The Boston Globe, Greenway is
"confessional one moment, rambunctiously disarming the next, few modern folk singers can own coffeehouse stage as completely."
Alastair Moock was a 2007 nominee for a Boston Music Award for Outstanding Singer/Songwriter of the Year. Anne Heaton is a
Boston-based singer songwriter who will release a new CD
called Blazing Red this fall. Michael Troy has won many awards for his music including the Boston Folk Festival Songwriter's Contest.
Geoff Bartley is a blues, folk and jazz-influenced acoustic guitarist, singer, songwriter and harmonica player. The folk press
has called him folk music at its best, a brilliant songwriter and a world-class guitarist. According to The Boston Globe,
"the songs [Chris O'Brien] writes brim with sincerity, taking on topics from relationships to cross-country travel." According
to the New York Times, Kevin Connolly's music "cuts a fairly wide swath through pop music culture, touching on everything from
blues to folk to country to rock-and often a combination of all four." Boston-based Amy Fairchild is "reminiscent of Sheryl Crow"
and "effortlessly delivers natural lyrics and organic vocals" according to the Album Network. Scott Alarik is a mainstay on the Boston
folk scee as well as the principal folk
music writer for the Boston Globe and frequent contributor to Sing Out! According to Peter, Paul and
Mary, Thea Hopkins "is one of the most poetic, literate and powerfully moving of the new singer/songwriters to emerge on the scene
in the last few years."
Please join for a wonderful night of celebration and entertainment.
Johnny D's is located at 17 Holland St, Somerville, MA. Tickets for this event are $20.
